Hot Oil Hair Treatment: Benefits, Uses, and Why Your Hair Needs It
Healthy, glossy hair is not just about the products you use at home — it’s also about how well your hair and scalp are nourished. One of the most effective and time-tested ways to restore moisture and strength to the hair is a Hot Oil Hair Treatment.

At Alaanah Lee Skin & Hair, hot oil treatments are a popular choice for clients looking to revive dry, damaged, or tired hair naturally and safely. In this blog, we explore what hot oil treatment is, how it works, its benefits, and who can benefit the most from it.
What Is a Hot Oil Hair Treatment?
A hot oil hair treatment is a deep conditioning therapy where natural oils are gently warmed and applied to the scalp and hair. The warmth helps open the hair cuticle, allowing the oils to penetrate deeply into the hair shaft rather than sitting on the surface.
This treatment has been used for generations across different cultures, and for good reason — it delivers visible results while supporting long-term hair and scalp health.
Hot oil Neem and Aloe Vera shea butter Treatments
Please choose your preferred butter base:
- Shea with (Lavender scent)
We strongly recommend to use our liquid shampoo and double cleanse (wash hair twice) when washing out this treatment, if you choose to use our shampoo bars, please double cleanse. This is a oi; treatment and will be a little messy as it warms it becomes looser, so you might not need a lot.
For thicker or dryer hair types our 20% conditioner is best after washing out the treatment. 3-4 hair types.
For finer, lighter curls we suggest using our 5% conditioner after washing out the treatment. 1-2 hair types.
We recommend leaving the oil treatment on for a minimum of a hour and covering the hair with a steam cap(shower cap). For best results, massage the scalp when applying and steam is amazing when using this treatment.
For luscious locks, go wild and leave the oil treatment on for at least an hour, wrapping your head in a steam cap (fancy shower cap vibes). To level up, give your scalp a little massage while applying the treatment, and trust us, steam takes this hair party to a whole new level!

How Does Hot Oil Treatment Work?
When oil is applied cold, it mainly coats the hair. However, when oil is warmed to a safe temperature, it becomes more easily absorbed.
The process typically includes:
- Warming premium natural oils
- Massaging the oil into the scalp to stimulate circulation
- Distributing oil evenly through the lengths of the hair
- Allowing time for deep penetration
- Gently cleansing and styling
This method helps nourish the scalp, strengthen the hair fibre, and lock in essential moisture.
Key Benefits of Hot Oil Hair Treatment
1. Deep Moisture and Hydration: Hot oil treatments are especially beneficial for dry and brittle hair. The oils help restore lost moisture, leaving hair softer, smoother, and more manageable.
2. Strengthens Hair and Reduces Breakage: Regular treatments help reinforce the hair shaft, reducing breakage and split ends caused by heat styling, colouring, or environmental damage.
3. Improves Scalp Health: A healthy scalp is essential for healthy hair growth. Hot oil treatments help:
- Nourish a dry or flaky scalp
- Improve blood circulation
- Reduce itchiness and irritation
4. Enhances Natural Shine: Dull hair often lacks moisture and nutrients. Hot oil treatments help seal the cuticle, reflecting light better and giving hair a natural, healthy shine.
5. Helps Control Frizz: By smoothing the hair cuticle and improving moisture balance, hot oil treatments help reduce frizz and flyaways, particularly in humid conditions.
6. Supports Hair Growth: While not a miracle cure, improved scalp circulation and nourishment can support healthier hair growth over time.
Who Should Consider a Hot Oil Hair Treatment?
Hot oil hair treatment is suitable for most hair types and textures, particularly:
- Dry or damaged hair
- Chemically treated or coloured hair
- Curly, coily, or textured hair
- Hair exposed to frequent heat styling
- Hair affected by environmental stress such as cold weather or pollution
It is also an excellent preventative treatment for maintaining healthy hair throughout the year.
Natural Oils Used in Hot Oil Treatments
Depending on your hair needs, different oils may be used, such as:
- Coconut oil for deep hydration
- Olive oil for strength and softness
- Castor oil for scalp nourishment
- Argan oil for shine and repair
- Almond oil for smoothing and conditioning
At Alaanah Lee Skin & Hair, treatments are tailored to suit your individual hair condition rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
How Often Should You Have a Hot Oil Treatment?
The frequency depends on your hair type and condition:
- Very dry or damaged hair: every 2–3 weeks
- Normal hair: once a month
- Maintenance and prevention: every 6–8 weeks
Your therapist can advise the best schedule during your consultation.
Professional Treatment vs At-Home Oil Treatments
While at-home oiling can be beneficial, professional hot oil treatments offer:
- Expert product selection
- Correct oil temperature for safety and effectiveness
- Proper scalp massage techniques
- Deep cleansing and finishing
Professional treatments also reduce the risk of product build-up or improper application.
